What is an ostomy ?

An ostomy is an opening in the gastrointestinal or urinary system, created by a surgeon. This opening is used to divert waste (stool or urine) from the usual passage through the body. The opening itself, usually located on the abdomen, is known as a stoma. The stoma itself is generally a small, red, moist bud.
Ostomy surgery is performed on thousands of people from newborn babies to senior citizens. Care of the stoma is not difficult. In a very short time, you will gain the skill and confidence you need to help your child lead a normal, active life. Neat, discrete and complete

After the Ileostomy, a person needs to be very caring about stoma. Proper cleaning of the Ostomy Bags, Ostomy Belts and Stoma is mandatory to avoid any probable infections on and inside of skin.
